The 2025 season is off the cards for football and netball players at the Yarroweyah Football Netball Club after it was announced the club will enter a recess period.

At a meeting on Wednesday, December 4, players, club members and the committee gathered at the Yarroweyah Recreation Reserve to discuss the future of the club in the Picola and District Football Netball League.
It was decided at the meeting that the club will not be competing in the 2025 season.
Club president Shaun McAllister emphasised that while the club has entered a recess period, it has not folded.
“We have a very positive outlook to go forward to in the 2026 season,” he said.
“The club has taken steps to make sure that that’s a very high possibility in 2026 for us to go forward as a club.”

McAllister said the club has a strong cohort of players across its junior and senior teams.
“We hope that in time, going forward in the 2026 season, that we can bring as many people to the club going forward in the junior and the senior,” he said.
Picola & District Football Netball League operations manager Shane Railton said that despite the club going into recess, there won’t be a great deal of change to the existing league fixture in 2025.
“There will still be 16 clubs, and 16 games over eighteen rounds. Fixturing will remain exactly the same,” he said.
“It was a club decision, and the club has made the decision to go into recess for 12 months… to allow it to be sustainable for the long term.”
