Both the Division Two women’s team and the under-16s boys outfit produced thrilling victories at Lavington Sports Ground, with the women downing Wodonga Heart and the under-16s beating Twin City.
For the women’s side, the cup win was the cherry on top of an extraordinary season.
The Roarettes did not lose a game across the entire season and conceded just two goals, including one in the grand final, for the campaign.
Speaking in the wake of his side’s victory, Cobram coach Tanner Tekin said it was exciting to take out the title.
“The women had a great season this year,” Tekin said.
“It was nail-biting the last five minutes, the stress levels were pretty high but it was good to get the win in the end.”
The 2-1 result against Wodonga Heart started with Cobram in the box seat early.
Just 13 minutes into the contest Ella Lissington put the Roar in front, before league star player Marlie Noonan scored a penalty in the 63rd minute to put them two goals up.
Soon after Noonan’s goal Heart struck back with a goal of their own; however, the yellow and black side did enough to get over the line.
“We dominated in the first half and then in the second we started having injuries to some of the senior players in the group,” Tekin said.
“The women haven’t been in that position since round of the year, they weren’t sure how to respond when they conceded a goal.
“They did what they do best and grinded out the result and got the win in the end.”
Lissington picked up the best-on-ground award for her efforts on the day, while Talia Ellis was outstanding with a well-rounded performance.
With the senior men’s side making the journey to Albury to watch the women play, it is clear the Roar are in a great place to end the season.
After the success of 2022, the Roar will make the jump to Division One next year and with the possible re-singings of Laydah Samani, Brenda Masae, Ella Lissington, Marlie Noonan and Alyssa Iannucci, they are sure to be a force to be reckoned with.

Under-16s Grand Final
Cobram Roar 2 defeated Twin City 0
The under-16s took on Twin City in the grand final – a fitting showdown against the team who took out the league championship by the smallest of margins. The boys headed into the grand final full of confidence after a strong semi-final showing and a good week of training behind them.
The team started strongly and dictated play from the outset. After a few near misses the boys scored the opening goal from Tommy Corso who connected with a loose ball amid a large pack of players taking the Roar to a 1-0 lead at the half-time break.
The Roar consolidated their lead 10 minutes into the second half when a long-range bomb from Riley Denny had the large Cobram supporter base on their feet.
In the boys’ best and most even game for the season they ran out with a dominant 2-0 win. Best on ground was awarded to captain Tom Corso who put in a solid performance for the entire match.
