The decorated country netballer returned to the Blues after five seasons with Nagambie and will play a vital role in her club’s bid for an A-grade premiership.
The Blues captain has been a crucial part of their past two, including the 2002 Goulburn Valley League triumph and the invincible season of 2009, capped with a grand final win over Tocumwal.
That was White’s 250th game and, 14 years later, she is prepared to help the club she started at in the ’90s snap its top-grade drought.
And the excitement of the occasion has not dulled over the seasons.
“I’m really excited,” White said.
“We just have a great bunch of girls who are young and extremely talented.
“I can’t remember being part of such a young team with so much talent, especially having four girls coming out of under-17s and come straight into A-grade.”
With league best-and-fairests in the GVL, Murray Netball League and Kyabram District League, as well as premierships in all three leagues, White will likely be the most decorated player on the court when the Blues face Mulwala.
But for someone who has played in numerous grand finals, she still knows how precious these opportunities are.
“You’ve got to make the most of every season you have,” White said.
“You just don’t get these opportunities. Some people play their whole life and never play in a grand final.
“We’ve had some hard times. I think we lost 2013 by a goal, 2014 by a goal and 2015 by three.”
With her daughter and two nieces playing at the club, a win would top off what White described as a special season.
A former coach, White said it was an honour to lead the side as captain while paying tribute to its current coach, Grace Hammond.
“I need to mention how knowledgable and level-headed Grace is as a coach for a person her age,” White said.
“She really understands the game.
“We’ve all worked hard this year. No season is smooth sailing, but the connection we have within our team on and off the court has been invaluable for our success so far.
“Just to captain these girls has been a privilege.”
The clash between Tongala and Mulwala is scheduled to begin at 1.30pm at Moama Recreation Reserve on Saturday, September 16.
