After an off-season that felt longer than a Wimbeldon tie-breaker, tennis will hit the courts again this week.
Social tennis will return to the Cobram Lawn Tennis Club from 6pm Thursday, while Saturday junior morning tennis will hold its second registration and warm-up hitting session on Saturday morning from 9am.
“It (social tennis) is a real fun night, it is for anyone that can hold a racquet can get out there and have a bit of fun,” club president David Bate said.
“We provide a real family fun atmosphere and you can have a few drinks and a meal afterwards.”
Social tennis is for teams made up of three players of any mix and has two grades, meaning everyone that participates will get a decent hit.
For more seasoned players, a Tuesday night competition is run, with people playing on a court of their standard each night and moving up or down depending on results.
“Anyone that doesn’t want to play pennant tennis on a Saturday that still wants to play a decent standard of tennis can come down and be a part of that,” Bate said.
“And then our pennant starts on Saturday, October 15.”
Playing in the Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association, pennant tennis sees Cobram take on other sides from around the region.
While this competitive level may not be for everyone, with a range of opportunities to play, Cobram Lawn can cater to any standard.
“Post-COVID-19, it’s a great way to get back out into the community and be involved,” Bate said.
“It’s a great sport to be involved with because, no matter what, you get three sets of tennis every time.
“It’s just a really good atmosphere when it’s a nice warm night to get down there, enjoy everyone’s company and just be part of the community.”
