Summer sports: where, when and how to get involved

With the end of winter, summer sport is kicking off around the Moira and Berrigan shires.

Here’s some summer sport opportunities available near you.

Cobram Lawn Tennis Club

Young players, both new and current, are invited to the William St courts on Saturday, October 12, for Saturday morning registration and grading.

The club is hosting a veterans’ tennis tournament on Sunday, October 20. The $30 entry fee includes a morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

Entries into the tournament close on Friday, October 18.

Cobram Cricket Club

Current and new players are welcome to come down to the Cobram Showgrounds for training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4pm.

Barooga Cricket Club

Seniors training is held on Thursday evenings at the Barooga Recreation Reserve from 5pm.

Training for under-17s and under-15s is on Sunday mornings from 10.30am.

The club will also be kicking off its season with a welcome night at the Barooga Recreation Reserve. Anyone is welcome.

Cobram Barooga Canoe Club

For one month only, the Cobram Barooga Canoe Club is running canoe polo at the Barooga Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

This Friday’s session starts at 6pm and finishes by 8pm. Then, from Friday, October 11, the sessions begin at 7pm and finish by 9pm.

Participants must pay a pool entry fee and join CBCC to participate.

The club is also searching for young people to join their junior relay team for the upcoming Ben Ward 40 Miler Canoe Race in December.

Numurkah Youth Club Cricket Club

Registrations are currently open on PlayHQ for junior players.

Junior training is on each Tuesday, beginning at 4.30pm at the Numurkah Showgrounds.

The club’s A and B-grade sides are to face Mooroopna this Saturday, October 5, in the first round of the season.

Numurkah Lawn Tennis Club

The Numurkah Lawn Tennis Club will hold its season launch this Saturday, October 5, from 3pm at the Numurkah Aquatic and Fitness Centre.

Hot Shots (for 5-10-year-olds) commences Thursday, October 24, from 5pm.

Saturday morning matches will begin on Saturday, October 19, from 9am.
