The Picola District League season started last Saturday, and Strathmerton Football Netball Club celebrated the 2022 season by opening its two new netball/tennis courts.
Funded in part by a $200,000 grant from the Moira Shire Council, SFNC president Craig Caughey thanked the shire for its support and also expressed his gratitude to the Strathmerton Tennis Club for its willingness to join in the project with the courts being built on two of the grass tennis courts nearest the tennis club house.
Due to Mayor Mustica’s unavailability due to scheduling issues, SFNC life member Yvonne Cleary was handed ribbon-cutting duties, with the support of life members Julie Madgwick, Melva Waser, Carolyn Ryan, Kim Stephens, Paula Hanson and Amy Carter. Life members Jacqui Ryan and Terry Kearne were unable to attend.
Following the recent amalgamation of the football and the netball clubs to form a combined Strathmerton Football Netball Club, the new courts provide easy connection for spectators to watch both football and netball and are a fantastic improvement on the previous facilities.
Local businesses Strathmerton Engineering, Crestani Concreting, Flashing and Roofing Shop, Cobram Electrical & Data and Sun Country Turf were thanked by Craig for the invaluable contribution they made to the project.
After the opening of the courts, games commenced for the 2022 PDFNL season and the new location was declared a great success.
