After suffering a setback with an ACL injury in pre-season, Barooga student and Yarrawonga Pigeons forward Sam Trembath will don the Murray Bushrangers colours this season.
“I was over the moon, actually,” Trembath said, referring to the night on which team selections were released.
“I was actually part of the injury list, so I didn’t get selected initially when the first squad came out. So I had to keep training and then played in the praccy match, then got selected after that.”
Trembath might be on the road to his footballing dreams of playing in the AFL.
But it’s a road paved with the footsteps of his pa and Demons three-times premiership halfback Ian Thorogood.
“That’s always been my dream. My pa played AFL for Melbourne, so hopefully [I’ll] follow his footsteps and succeed in that,” he said.
The 17-year-old forward played one practice match against the Bendigo Pioneers last month on the Labour Day weekend.
After an injury setback, Trembath has his eyes on the future.

Kicking two between the big sticks back from injury, he impressed coaches enough to earn a spot on the side as a bottom-ager.
“I was pretty happy with the game I played, and felt like I couldn’t do much more in a losing game,” he said.
“I was competing with a couple of other boys off the injury list, and they didn’t have the best game.”
In the long term, Trembath has his dreams set with a big season ahead of him.
“This year, [I’ll] just play five or six games hopefully,” he said.
“And then have a big off season next year, get stuck into gym, get really fit, and hopefully have a big year next year.”
