After falling to Rennie in round three, Katamatite climbed back into the Picola and District Football League’s top six thanks to a 33-point victory over Berrigan.
The Tigers were in front by three points at quarter time, but a strong second term saw them boot five goals to the Saints’ two and open up a 21-point lead.
A lockdown effort from Katty’s defence in the second half meant Berrigan could only muster one goal across quarters three and four, while three majors from the Tigers sealed their 12.12 (84) to 7.9 (51) triumph.
Dylan Callard was the leading contributor in front of the big sticks on Saturday as he slotted home five goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Tigers.
Alistair Elgin, Trent Steers, Nicholas Ryan and Callan Aldridge were also named in the best for Katty.
While the Tigers were celebrating their victory, Yarroweyah was left to regroup following a heavy 261-point belting by Jerilderie.
The Hoppers were blown out of the water by the dominant Demons, who piled on the goals to run out 41.17 (263) to 0.2 (2) victors.
Jerilderie’s Mitchell Conlan did a boatload of damage on the scoreboard, booting 19 goals for the Dees.
The result is a setback for a Yarroweyah side that had come so close to earning a breakthrough win the round prior against Berrigan, falling to the Saints by seven points.
But the focus was on more than just football on Saturday.
All of Yarroweyah’s teams wore black arm bands as a tribute to the five people killed in a horror crash on the Murray Valley Hwy near Strathmerton on Thursday, April 20.
Yarroweyah Football Netball Club president Ben Henderson said four of their players who worked at the same abattoir as some of the victims were having a tough time coming to terms with the loss of their colleagues.
“Quite recently we had four (Pacific) Islanders join our football club and they (work at) the abattoir,” Mr Henderson said.
“They’re getting through it, but they’re definitely doing it tough.”
In the weekend’s other results, Waaia pummelled Picola United 20.14 (134) to 5.5 (35), Deni Rovers hammered Blighty 20.17 (137) to 4.2 (26), Tungamah trounced Mathoura 25.16 (166) to 6.9 (45) and Katunga defeated Katandra 12.14 (86) to 6.6 (42).
Strathmerton had a bye in round four.
This weekend, Yarroweyah will take on Katamatite while the Bulldogs will return to action to take on Tungamah.
