Cobram’s division one women’s side fell to a dogged Wodonga Diamonds outfit at the weekend, despite some displays of promise from the young side.
Looking to add their first win to the sheet after a round two upset to Melrose FC, the Roar finished the first half a goal ahead of the Diamonds after efforts from Emma Reuss and a long-range free kick off the boot of Alyssa Iannucci.
But almost ten minutes into the second half, the visitors equalised with a strike from outside the box.
Despite their best efforts, luck wasn’t on the side of the hosts as the Diamonds bagged a third goal from a deflection off the leg of Roar defender Sienna Hutchinson.
The final score settled at 3-2 to the Diamonds.
Coach Manny Artavilla said that while the result was disappointing, there were positives to draw out of his young side’s performance.
“We’re a reasonably new side. We’ve lost nine girls from last year that played in the preliminary final, so we’re reasonably new,” he said.
With at least three players still missing, the team is building towards where it wants to be when finals come knocking.
“Obviously, we’ll work on stuff we need to work on. There’s work with position and ball move meet that we need to do,” Artavilla said.
“It’s going to take time to see where we want to get to.”
