The Longest Day is an endurance golf event that sees participants play a set number of holes on their chosen course from dusk until dawn.
Options on holes to be played include 36, 54 and the ultimate challenge of 72 holes.
This means that at the lowest number of holes, you are still trying to complete a full 18-hole golf course twice.
Whichever challenge you choose, you will be given 12 hours to complete the selected number of holes.
In previous years the 72 hole challenge has taken some participants upwards of 14 hours.
The fundraising event is not a simple test of skills of the everyday golfer, but a true test of endurance, mental fortitude and skills, all in the hope of raising funds and finding a cure for cancer.
Local golfers Ross Taylor, Kieran Collins and Craig Manning are aiming to complete the 72 hole challenge when they hit the course for the Longest Day.
Perhaps more impressively though, Ross’ daughter, Rivah Taylor, will be attacking the 36 hole challenge.
A mammoth effort by a young girl looking to raise funds for a more than worthy cause.
The team of four are called ‘Good, Bad, Ugly Golf’, and are taking donations online at https://www.longestday.org.au/fundraisers/goodbaduglygolf.
They have a goal to raise $4000, and will be teeing off on January 13.
‘‘Pain for a day is a small price to pay,’’ said Ross, who has completed the Longest Day before.
The golfers will be supported by their families at the course during the event, but also invite Golf Club members and community members to come down and support the day.
Anyone interested in being involved or completing their own Longest Day challenge is encouraged to get in contact with the Deniliquin Golf Club.
