Southern Riverina will take on Murrumbidgee Cricket Council in Hay, NSW on Sunday, March 26, with players from Barooga, Katamatite, Cobram, Tocumwal and Nathalia all included in the two 13-person squads.
In the under-13s, Murphy Stephens — who was named the vice-captain — Ethan Bovalina and Isaiah Benson will represent Barooga, with Crue Lucas (Katamatite) and Jack Opray (Cobram) also in the team.
Seven players from the region will also play for the under-15s — Oliver Benson, Kohen Haddrell (Barooga), Cooper Mynard, Riley Thompson (Katamatite) and Tom White (Tocumwal).
Nathalia’s Gus Frostick will captain the side, while Eamon Hyde from Cobram will serve as the vice-captain.
The under-13s will play in a 40-over match, while it will be a 50-over format in the under-15s.
The junior cricketers will have plenty of inspiration heading into the match, with former Southern Riverina cricketer Todd Murphy making waves for the Australian Test team in India.
Murphy made his debut for the Aussies in the opening Test against India this month, taking an astonishing seven wickets during his very first innings with the ball.
The off-spinner then took a further three wickets in Australia’s defeat in the second Test.
