The current Cobram Football Netball Club president, Beasley captained the Tigers to the club’s last two senior premierships, and with three children involved in the senior set up this year, his love for the club has never wavered.
“It will certainly be special for me and my family,” Beasley said.
“I played all my footy at Cobram and when I couldn’t play football anymore I decided to get involved from a committee point of view and the last six or seven years I’ve been president.
“It’s a great club, a real family club and I think a town of our size it’s pretty important that you create an environment where kids are able to enjoy themselves and ability wise develop as footballers and netballers.”
Beasley said it was pleasing to have his three children involved in the senior football side, with Sam, Harry and Jack Beasley all playing a role in the team’s journey to the grand final.
“They’re certainly better players than I ever was,” he said.
“They love their footy and it’s probably the strength of our senior side at the moment that there’s all those young kids.
“They’re all great mates that played a lot of junior football together and had some success, so hopefully that’ll hold us in good stead come Saturday.”
The 1995 and 1998 premiership captain is not the only Tiger to have children in the team, with seven Cobram grand final winners’ sons in the team.
Including Beasley’s three sons, 10 senior footballers have played their role in Cobram’s march to the big dance from these seven families; 1984 premiership player Rob Williams’ son Cadeyn, 1995/98 premiership player Steve Gemmill’s son Sam, 1995 premiership player Rob Allen’s sons Luca and Matteo, 1998 premiership player Adam Rudd’s son Brodey, 1995 premiership player Joseph Artavilla’s son Izac and 1998 premiership player Ben Kennedy’s son Lewis.
“I think it’s great that the families have stuck around and the kids have stuck around,” Beasley said.
“Some of them have gone away to uni and come back, so it’s pretty special.”
The Tigers senior side is not the only team set to battle it out in grand final action with the club’s under-14 footballers and 15-and-under netballers taking part in their respective deciders.
“To have three sides represented on the day, it’s fantastic,” Beasley said.
“It’s an exciting week, I know from past experience there’s nothing better than playing in that last game of the year, so I’m sure all those boys and girls will be pretty excited as we are.”
