Hookin2 Hockey, which is run state-wide by Hockey Victoria, begins this Saturday (February 11) at 9am and is a great way for children of all abilities to get involved in the game.
And the best part about it is the first session is free.
Goulburn Valley Hookin2 Hockey co-ordinator Xavier McBain gave a bit of background into what the program was all about.
“The program goes for eight weeks with the first being a free come and try session for people to see what we are all about,” McBain said.
“It is all about bringing kids together, getting them out and about and off the screens.
“We will look to teach them the basic skills of the game and just introduce them to something a bit different than the regular sports.”
The beginning of the Hookin2 Hockey program comes after Hockey Victoria hosted a number of clinics at schools across Shepparton this week.
McBain, who hosted the clinics, said it was fantastic to see so many kids take a keen interest in learning about the game.
“All the kids are interested in the game, it is a bit different to what they are used too and we have loved showing them what it is all about,” he said.
“The kids have been very engaged and keen to learn, which has been great and it’s been really enjoyable teaching them the basics.
“Hopefully a few might get inspired and want to start playing.”
