As the brains trusts at the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association continue to finalise the draw, the competition is set to begin on April 26, with men’s, women’s, under-15 and under-12 sides to be entered by the local club.
The club has held its first senior and junior training sessions over the past two Thursdays, with a good turnout of players thus far.
The two sessions, and the training this upcoming Thursday, held from 5pm for juniors and 6pm for seniors at Echuca College, are open to new players to get immersed in the squad without committing to a registration with the club.
“We have had a few new people and I can see there are a few juniors who were new last week that have returned again this week, which is promising,” club secretary Bec Webb said at the second session.
Junior development is a key focus for the club this year.

“So, we should get some new families through the club.”
The club reminds players to complete their season registrations to help with organisation ahead of the new season.
The club’s standout side last year was the senior women’s outfit, who claimed the title in dominant fashion in an undefeated campaign.
Webb said a slightly changed squad is keen to try and back up that performance in 2025.
“We would like to keep the undefeated title,” Webb said.
“We do have some new women coming through, and also some of our higher-skilled players moving into some higher leagues.
“We will be looking at a bit of a different team but still 50 per cent the same if not more.”
Another focus for the new season has been the development of the club’s juniors.
The Hookin2Hockey program, a nationwide program for kids aged 5-10, has been running at the club from 4pm on Thursdays, but the committee is looking to continue working with the juniors once the program concludes.
“It's a new focus on developing our youngest club members,” Webb said.
“It's to keep the young kids aged 5 to 10 engaged in hockey for longer than just that 12 weeks and developing them, especially the older ones that can transition into games next year.”
Echuca Moama Hockey Club’s next open training session will be Thursday afternoon, April 3, beginning at 5pm for juniors and 6pm for seniors at Echuca College.
