Euroa will be anxiously awaiting the severity of an ankle injury to one of its main talents following the weekend’s Goulburn Valley League semi-final win over Seymour.
Star midfielder Will Hayes was unable to finish the match after he rolled his ankle during the third quarter of Sunday’s 22-point triumph at Tatura Park.
Hayes celebrated the win with teammates with ice strapped to his left ankle.
It is a major concern for Euroa coach Scott Rowan ahead of Sunday’s preliminary final bout with Kyabram at Deakin Reserve.
Speaking after the win over the Lions, Rowan said Hayes would do “everything” to be passed fit and available to help the Magpies book a ticket into a consecutive grand final.
“It’s just a rolled ankle that blew up pretty quick,” Rowan said.
“He’s got a bit of a golf ball (lump) there, he’s the ultimate professional mate and he’ll be doing everything to make sure he’s right.”
Hayes, a front-runner to claim his maiden Morrison Medal next week, has been a standout for the Magpies in 2023 since he exited the elite level last year.
The former AFL talent has averaged 34 disposals, seven tackles, five clearances and six inside 50s a game.
The hard-nosed ball-winner has tallied four 40-plus disposal games, with an incredible season-high 50 coming in round 14.
