The Hawks were up against it from the outset at Barooga Recreation Reserve, with the Road piling on seven goals to two in a brutal opening term to open up a 33-point lead by quarter time.
Congupna’s advantage ballooned out to 56 points by half-time, courtesy of a six-goal-to-two second term, as Barooga struggled to find any real footing in the game against the might of the Road.
Things went from bad to worse after half-time for Barooga as Congupna posted its highest-scoring quarter of the game. Conversely the Hawks put up their worst, as the Road slammed home 10.5 to just three behinds from Barooga, causing the margin to go north of 100.
The final term got under way with the home side 118 points in arrears, a lead that Congupna would push out to 133 by the time the final siren sounded.
Jae Bowden and Lachlan Sykes put up a valiant fight in the forward line for Barooga all day, each finishing with two goals, while Joe Lindrea, Samuel Macheda and Jai Nolan each finished with one.
Jake Murphy was named the home side’s best in the loss, joined by goal-kickers Macheda and Bowden, while Joshua Noonan, Leo Quinane and Thomas Barker all dug in on a tough day for their side.
Congupna spearhead Kyle Mueller made the most of his side’s dominant day out, extending his own lead in the race for the Les Mogg Cup with a mammoth 15-goal haul.
Daniel Campbell ended the day for the Road with a tidy bag of five, while Jak Trewin and skipper Daniel Schaper didn’t miss out either, both kicking three.
Mueller was unsurprisingly named his side’s best, while Billy Cooper, James Boyer, Jack Norman, Samuel Buxton and Rylen Damianopoulos were named alongside him.
Barooga will face Deniliquin away next week at Hardinge Street Oval, as they look to notch win number three for the year in what will be their final game.
