Cobram Sports Stadium is set to come alive with the sound of excited local kids.
No, it isn’t an all-you-can-eat lolly bar buffet, it’s the season for badminton which kicks off on Friday, May 3.
Cobram junior badminton coordinator Margaret Watson said historically, roughly 30 youngsters of varying ages show up every Friday for the recreational event, with the numbers increasing to 60 when a tournament is being played.
Often, parents will also come along to help out on nights.
Ms Watson said the badminton session is a chance for kids to get out and have fun after school wraps up for the week.
And it’s not just the social benefit attendees get out of playing badminton. Research shows a huge benefit to playing the sports including improved muscle strength, flexibility and mental agility.
Ms Watson is encouraging anyone interested in giving badminton a go to come along with sessions starting at 7pm.
Individual nights cost $4, and junior membership costs $20, and runs for the entire season, which ends in September.
“It's cheap compared to the other sports, and junior membership is just $20 for insurance,” Ms Watson said.
