Round seven of the Albury Wodonga Football Association brought Cobram to Jelbart Park, where the Roar looked to add their first win of the season over bottom-placed Albury.
And take the win the young Roar did, who despite a young and relatively inexperienced outfit managed to take a 0-6 victory at the full-time whistle.
Goal scorers for Cobram were Lyra Mete (6’), Charlotte Artavilla-Bennett (28’), Emma Reuss (44’ and 90’) and Alyssa Iannucci (67’ and 80’).
The Cobram outfit under coach Manny Artavilla has a tough prospect this weekend in the shape of the third-placed Boomers at Jelbart Park again.
“It’s good to get our first win for the year. The girls have been slowly building to what we want to get to,” Artavilla said.
He highlighted the leadership of Reuss and Alyssa.
“Their communication probably has been lacking for probably the start of the season, so to have those girls talk to the younger ones and get the message across was great to see,” he said.
“The girls are understanding that it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. So this week’s opponents [Boomers] will be a lot tougher, but we’ve still got some girls to come in, who will strengthen our side.”
