But things got off to a slow start for the Roar, who gave away possession through their middle all too often until Martin Louchet slipped past the Heart defence and gave Cobram the lead in the first major break for the home side.
Another cross from Tom Plyson soon found the boot of George Wiles, and with efforts from Jake Kalz finally paying off in the 43rd minute, Cobram found itself up 5-nil at half-time.
The dominant showing in front of goal from Cobram continued deep into the second half, as Kalz went on to bag his hat-trick by the 56th minute.
As the Heart searched in vain for a consolation goal, Cobram found itself at a 10-goal lead with still more to show at the full-time whistle.
Cobram coach Daniel Vasilevski said despite the win there was still room for improvement across the board.
“The first half was pretty ordinary, I think, even though we scored a few goals. I think our performance in keeping the ball in the middle of the park was pretty average, we were giving the ball away, and we weren’t doing a lot right,” he said.
“So we came in at half-time and had a discussion on that we needed to lift our level. And I think that’s what we did in the second half; we kept the ball a bit better and scored a few more goals. So overall, I think it was an okay performance. There were areas I think we need to improve on.”
Vasilevksi had praise for his mentees, including Martin Louchet and Jake Kalz.
“You know what you’re going to get with Martin: it’s always 100 per cent, and he gives us a great option out wide,” he said.
“And Kalz, he’s got jets, he’s so quick that in a one-on-one situation he’s going to beat a player, so we’re trying to get him the ball early and trying to get the ball over the top that he can run on to.”
He also had positive words for the defence.
“I think the most convincing thing for us was we didn’t concede. We scored quite a few, like we did against St Pats; we’re trying not to concede, so we’re tidying things up at the back.”
