Sixteen students from CSC joined Cobram Anglican Grammar School students alongside students from Shepparton on the Shepparton range as part of the inter-school winter sports competition.
CSC student Madison Knight was one of the students at the range and like all students present, was both excited and nervous about competing in clay target shooting.
Unlike other participants at the event, Madison is no stranger to the shooting community, having spent time with her father practising sport shooting with both rifles and shotguns. She said she enjoyed the social aspect of clay target shooting with her friends and fellow enthusiasts.
“I picked up the shooting because I really liked shooting rifles and shotguns and this is a good opportunity to do that,” she said.
“It's a good community,” Madison said.
Standing and waiting for the clay target to fly off, Madison said she felt a mixture of emotions.
“I'm really scared but also I'm determined that I am going to do this, and I'm going to try my best to hit the target,” she said.
Whatever apprehension Madison had was misplaced as she successfully hit several clay targets.
Asked what she would say to anyone thinking about trying clay target shooting, Madison said it was a great sport.
Such sentiments were also shared by fellow CSC student Kyah McAndrew who had no experience shooting before.
For her the experience of clay targets was one of relaxation.
“Its relaxing, like meditation actually,” she said.
“It feels nice to get into the zone (of anticipating the target) and then just release that energy.”
The shooting day ended with Kyah coming first in the female senior category while fellow CSC student Lachlan Ashley won the male senior category.
