A community boot donation drive is under way to help young athletes access sports footwear through the Activities in the Park program, aiming to ease financial pressures and promote a sustainable approach to recycling sport equipment.
The initiative, run by council in partnership with Shepparton Junior Soccer Association and Kick It Forward, is accepting donations of clean, well-maintained soccer, AFL and rugby boots until Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Donations can be made at Shepparton Sports Stadium or Aquamoves between 10am and 4pm daily.
“Boots are often outgrown before they are worn out,” Mayor Shane Sali said.
“This program is about giving those boots a second chance, reducing waste and supporting families in our community.”
A Boot Swap event will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 8am to 4pm at the McEwen Reserve soccer fields in Shepparton and families can exchange outgrown boots or collect a pair free of charge.
As stock will be limited, organisers recommend arriving early to secure appropriate sizes. Any unclaimed boots will be distributed to local families in need after the event.
“Every child deserves the chance to play sport,” council's director community Louise Mitchell said.
“This initiative helps reduce the financial pressure for families while encouraging upcycling and inclusion.”
