Cobram Roar took on Myrtleford at Apex reserve on Sunday, May 12 in front of an adoring crowd as the club celebrated Female Football Week and Mother’s Day.
As part of the celebrations, Cobram Roar invited Cobram Junior Soccer Association players along to walk out with the players before the start of their game.
Myrtleford players also walked out with supporters — they brought their mums along for the day.
From the start of the game, Cobram Roar looked strong, however Myrtleford was also putting up determined resistance.
The first goal came from former Cobram 2023 team captain Talia Ellis who scored a header from the corner beating Myrtleford’s goalkeeper.
Cobram Roar created many opportunities throughout the first half, but was unable to capitalise against the Myrtleford keeper who had a great game, keeping her team in the game until half-time 1-0.
Cobram Roar led as the second half progressed, with the girls fitness levels clearly showing.
Casey Chandler was put on as goalkeeper to replace injured star keeper Em Ryan.
It was a role which suited her well, as Chandler was forced to make two great one-on-one saves.
The second half saw Cobram Roar’s captain Alyssa Iannucci score her first for the game, which was made possible through a great build up of play from her fellow teammates.
With the score sitting 2-0, and the 90 minutes played out, the game moved to extra time.
It was time the Cobram Roar girls made great use of, with another great build-up of the ball in which Matilda Iddles put in a through ball for Iannucci who scored her second goal and put the game to bed 3-0.
Cobram Roar may have been victorious, but it was three goals the ladies had to dig deep to work as a team to make it happen.
Cobram Roar is sixth on the ladder and will play Albury City in the next round.
Off the pitch, Cobram Roar hosted a Female Footballer Week and Mother’s Day afternoon on Sunday at the clubrooms.
The clubrooms were transformed into a relaxing space for mothers, grandmothers, players, volunteers and supporters to enjoy grazing tables and drinks from the bar.
