The Roar ladies came out strong, scoring within the first two minutes with a great team goal and a excellent finish by captain Alyssa Iannucci.
The ladies were just getting warmed up, as moments later great team build-up play saw Jess Gannaway in the 18-yard box beat two defenders and chip the ball into the top left corner, giving the keeper no chance of saving the shot.
At the 12-minute mark it was Casey Chandler who beat her defender and rocketed the ball into the back of the net, bringing the score to 3-0.
More good teamwork led to Alyssa Iannucci belting the ball low and hard across the keeper’s body, giving Roar a 4-0 lead after just 34 minutes.
With the weather starting to take a turn, in the 44th minute Cobram was awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal. Ella Lissington took the free kick, sending it through the keeper’s legs to give the Roar a 5-0 at the break.
In the second half the Roar came out firing, keeping Diamonds on the back foot.
But with 55 minutes game time played, thunderstorms hit Jelbart Park in Albury.
After the game was postponed for 60 minutes due to the lightning in the area, the game picked up where it left off, although a wet field made it tricky for the players.
In the 73rd minute, the Roar were awarded a penalty due to a Diamonds handball inside the 18-yard box.
Laura Moras stepped up to fire the ball into the left side net, leaving the Diamonds keeper grasping at air. The score was now 6-0.
With 93 minutes played and deep in stoppage time, Francesca Zuccarello struck from 45 yards out to beat the Diamonds keeper one last time, the game ending 7-0.
