Chris Gash led Cobram Roar’s Division Two team to its first cup win in the division in a nail-biting game against Albury United.
With scores locked at 1-1 following 90 minutes, extra-time was needed to find the winner.
Roar did not mess about following resumption of play and goals in extra time by Jake Kalz (two) and Rocky Perri resulted in a 4-1 victory.
Kalz gave Roar the upper hand in the 91st minute before Perri found the back of the net in the 103rd.
Kalz scored his second six minutes later to seal a memorable triumph.
Both of the normal-time goals were scored in the second half of the first 90 minutes, with Cobram Roar’s Tony Wayne hitting the back of the net from 22m away.
An unfortunate error by Cobram Roar’s goalkeeper allowed Albury United to even the score before the game was forced into extra time.
Cobram Roar president and Division Two coach Chris Gash couldn’t be prouder of the players.
“I am extremely proud of the boys,” he said.
“Most of the squad is young local talent who have developed over the last two years to get to this point.”
The Division Three men team had a stunning comeback after starting the second half behind by one goal.
Veteran James McMaster, Ethan Baxa and Baden Riedell showed what they were made of and helped ensure Cobram Roar emerged victorious.
This was the first time Cobram Roar had entered Division Three since 2017.
The U14 girls, coached by Mario Mete and assisted by Amelia Perri, were unlucky, falling 2-0 to Albury Hotspurs.
It has been a memorable week for the Roar fraternity.
Star import Keiran O’Donnell claimed the AWFA Division One Star Player title on 31 points.
The English striker also claimed the Golden Boot, with 33 goals for the season.
