Senator O’Neill joined Berrigan Shire Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean, Sporties Barooga President Gary Hunt and CEO Bobby Brooks along with life members and invited guests of the Cobram-Barooga Golf Club to honour the occasion.
Sporties Barooga President Gary Hunt said this project added significant prosperity to Cobram-Barooga as a golfing destination.
“The Cobram-Barooga Golf Club Enhancement Project is vital in supporting and growing tourism and its associated economic and social benefits to the region,” Mr Hunt said.
“This project will result in five percent growth in golf tourism.”
It will also position the course for more major events, creates jobs and increases the, already strong, local participation at the course and the liveability of the area.
The Cobram-Barooga Golf Course Enhancement Project was funded by the Federal Building Better Regions Program and Sporties-Barooga, at a total cost of $670,000.
The project has included creating two new signature holes, increasing water storage capacity, and replacing and automating a redundant irrigation system.
As a result, the Cobram-Barooga Golf Club, which is currently rated in Australia’s top 100 courses, and has been described by Golf Australia as a ‘nationally significant course’, will provide new attractions and address the biggest concern golf courses in Australia face - water security.
