It offers its members access to various paddling disciplines and opportunities, from relaxing social paddles to highly competitive events.
Disciplines include sprint, marathon, downriver, whitewater and canoe polo, and the club aims to provide lots of paddling fun for all ages and ability levels.
“Our current members range in age from nine to 70-plus, with our youngest member starting with his mum and sister when he was five years old,” said club secretary Louise Greenwood.
“We have members who join us for social paddles and others who train hard and have won medals at National Championships. We offer something for everyone.”
CBCC has a wide variety of equipment available for members to use, from sit-on-top kayaks and stand-up paddleboards to whitewater kayaks and racing kayaks and canoes, as well as life jackets and paddles.
The club runs regular paddling sessions throughout the year at Thompsons Beach on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4.30pm and Saturday mornings from 9am.
Qualified guides/coaches and experienced paddlers provide coaching and supervision.
Potential new members are offered a month free to ‘come and try’ with yearly membership being $160 for adults and $80 for juniors, with discounts available for families.
CBCC will hold its 2023 annual two-day racing event on December 9 and 10.
Day one is a 64km race from Yarrawonga to Thompsons Beach, Cobram.
Day two is a six-lap 18km circuit race at Thompsons Beach, with lots of team changeovers on the beach. The races attract paddlers and school teams from all over. Spectators are welcome.
On Saturday, December 9, the club will host the Paddle Victoria Marathon Awards dinner at the Koonoomoo Recreation Reserve.
Local entertainer Jade Camden will provide the musical entertainment, with special guest Richard Barnes talking about his solo kayak adventure paddling unassisted from Australia to New Zealand.
