Taking to Winton Speedway in the last round of the 2022 Victorian Pulsar Series, Hamilton faced tricky conditions across the three-day event, with unpredictable weather making it hard to prepare the car .
“It was a pretty action packed weekend,” Hamilton said.
“We went out and spent all day practising in the dry on Friday and the car felt really nice, and then I woke up Saturday morning and it was wet.
“We went out for qualifying and it was quite wet, but it dried out at the end of the session and I managed to get a time in that put me second on the grid.”
Despite starting second in race one, a mis-judgement of the conditions saw Hamilton finish in fifth, with his team preparing for a wet race that turned dry.
In the second race the conditions were so bad Hamilton questioned whether it should have even gone ahead.
“It was terrible weather, torrential rain, the track was un-drivable and I thought it was too dangerous to be racing on track,” he said.
After finding a sand trap, Hamilton ended the race in sixth, with the racer coming back the next day to finish fourth in race three and fifth in race four — resulting in a third place overall finish for the event.
“It means I finish fourth for the championship this year, which isn’t bad given the year it’s been,” he said.
“Back at the start of the year I had a crash and ended up in hospital and then my supportive crew at Vurgel Autosport managed to build me a brand new car in five weeks.
“To still do every event this year and come away fourth in the championship is pretty good.”
