The recently turned 19-year-old left-hand opening batsman is from Derbyshire County Cricket Club and Derbyshire Premier League outfit Spondon Cricket Club.
“Mitch will arrive late September, which will allow him to get to know people around the club and community, and obviously enough time to have a few nets to get into touch,” dynamic fast bowler and coach for the last two seasons Jarryd Hatton told The Free Press.
“Arth will be here a little later on the 21st of October due to cricket commitments in Spain with the English T10 side. We can’t wait to have him back!”
Hatton said he was lucky enough to reach out to some of his connections through the cricketing world and contacted Joe Ashdown, a former overseas at Rutherglen. “He mentioned Mitch might be interested and it all unfolded from there,” Hatton explained.
“Mitchell will really complement our batting and provide some stability. We all know we aren’t far off it and with hopefully some extra runs at the top we can start to progress.”
Wagstaff will add some quality with the ball also and look to really work in with offspinner Luke Backhouse.
“Ultimately it provides us with 20 overs of spin which then allows the quicks to rotate heavily throughout the middle and death of the innings,” Hatton said.
“If it all comes to plan it’ll be very exciting to watch.
“Arth is also excited to join Mitch in bolstering up strong junior ranks with their strong understanding for the game.”
Wagstaff is regarded as a flamboyant batsman and more than capable with the ball. President Paul Lavis told The Free Press: “We look forward to what Mitchell can bring to our club and more importantly our junior ranks with a strong passion for coaching. We also look forward to seeing Arthur after back at Ball Park.
“Arthur is a quality human who will add so much more this season on and off the field with him recently attaining his Level 2 coaching accreditation to bring forward to the club as well as a wealth of experience and knowledge.”
