The annual challenge cup game has been played every season between the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Cricket Club and the Barooga Cricket Club.
Both clubs receive enormous support from the Central Murray Credit Union and appreciate the ongoing support.
The sixth edition was hosted by YMCC at Stan Hargreaves Oval in Yarrawonga on Thursday, February 25.
Barooga, boasting a strong line-up, won the toss and elected to bat in pristine conditions.
The YMCC used the game as an opportunity to blood some highly-talented juniors with Lachlan Phillips, Rory Bartlett and Caleb Mitchell all playing impressively at the higher standard.
A 45-run opening partnership saw Barooga cruise to 45 off eight overs before the first wicket fell.
The mainstay of the Barooga innings was former Tungamah premiership player Daniel Ellis, who scored a classy 50.
Yarrawonga postmaster Justin Maley scored 19, with also Kale Watkins playing well in Barooga’s total of 7-128, the side's highest score in the cup's history.
With the ball, Corey McIntosh took 2-23 from four overs; Lachlan Phillips bowled with good pace and excellent yorkers to finish with 2-22 off four overs and Rory Bartlett had figures of 1-19 off four overs.
Needing 129 runs to win, Yarrawonga-Mulwala started well with opening combination Harry Wheeler and Kyle Archibald getting the team off to a solid start.
Wheeler was the highest run scorer for the YMCC with 45, while Archibald made 31.
Caleb Mitchell batted at three and made 15.
Corey McIntosh's massive six off Maley was a highlight, but YMCC lost a flutter of wickets to finish at 7-119, nine runs short of victory.
Barooga bowlers performed well with Jono Stevens finishing with 2-17 off four overs, Kale Watkins with 2-19 off four overs, captain Riley Gow with 1-13 off three overs and Justin Maley with 1-24 off four overs.
