A man who had 14 demerit points on his licence has faced court after he was picked up driving while disqualified.
Thomas Taylor, a 27-year-old from the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to disqualified driving.
Taylor was driving a white van south on the Goulburn Valley Hwy at Koonoomoo, when he was pulled over by police on November 19, 2023.
Taylor produced a New Zealand driver’s licence; however, it had been suspended for three months from September 6, 2023, due to him having 14 demerit points.
Representing himself in court, Taylor said he was aware he had accumulated traffic fines, but didn’t realise he got demerit points for them.
Taylor had no criminal priors and had since obtained a Victorian driver’s licence on January 19.
Magistrate Peter Mithen told Taylor that it was his responsibility to know the status of his licence.
Mr Mithen fined Taylor $400 with no conviction and no disqualification on his licence.
