Oddie was drawn out on to the streets on Wednesday night, searching for the cause of consistent — and persistent — beeping car horns in the north of Shepparton.

Confused as to what it could be, Oddie could have had a dozen guesses and not landed on the correct assumption.

What Oddie found was a group of young revellers sitting next to a large, ‘you honk, we drink’ sign along Numurkah Rd.

It’s safe to say that passing travellers were keeping the crew well hydrated.

For the second time in three years, there was a mix-up with the timing for Dookie’s Australia Day events.

News editor Tyler Maher — back from leave and back out in the field — headed out to the north-eastern edge of Greater Shepparton for what he had on good authority was a 10am start, only to find the crowd clapping and then dispersing on his arrival.

It was quickly conveyed that the actual start time for the event was 9am, and when Maher apologised for the error the locals reminded him of a similar issue with a non-existent 6am breakfast a couple of years prior.

Oddie thinks the root of the problem may be timezone related — and bringing in Australian Dookie Standard Time across the region should fix the problem.

Former locals congregate on Birmingham dance floor

Oddie is taking ‘Around Town’ around the world this week, thanks to this submitted photo from Shepparton’s Trent Doyle.

Doyle — who you will know from his Trent’s Travels series in the News — was in Birmingham over the festive season to celebrate the wedding of former Kialla local Alex Keath and his wife, Laura.

As you can see, also tearing up the dance floor is fellow Shepparton product Luke Lowden.

Oddie could almost be convinced that the photo was taken at one of the Goulburn Valley’s various night spots.

Bidding war for Kuol merch

Oddie knows the passion the News sport desk has for Kuol content — no matter what member of the family is in the spotlight — is no secret across the GV.

But sport editor Aydin Payne and journalist Daniel Webb took it to another level on Wednesday night.

Oddie’s spies at the Theatre of Dreams for the Mimmo Lia Cup — which doubled as a fundraiser for ‘Support Jodie through Cancer’ — saw the duo engage in a heated bidding war for a Socceroos jersey signed by rising star Garang Kuol.

Eventually, Payne won out — but Oddie expects the prize to hang proudly above the sport desk either way.
