Woodchopping events are a cornerstone of every good agricultural show or local event, and often the highlight for attendees.
However, a recent report has highlighted a lack of available timber, which is putting them at risk.
State Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy has been quick to take up the cause for the Victorian Axemen’s Council, which is struggling to acquire timber for upcoming woodchopping events
He blames a court order limiting harvesting in areas managed by VicForests, and has called on the Victorian Government to “guarantee the future of the sport”.
“Woodchopping is a major drawcard of agricultural shows around the state and a sport that attracts international attention,” Mr McCurdy said.
