Coordinated by the NSW Rural Fire Service Association, it was intended for RFS members, their families and friends.
Live entertainment was provided by Northern Rivers musical duo Grace and Hugh.
Guests also enjoyed a complimentary dinner, soft drinks, tea and coffee and giveaways.
Local volunteer Kerrie Godfrey said it was, “a great night to get together in a casual setting with our colleagues and families”.
Photos from the night will appear in Friday’s edition.
Closure works in committee’s favour
The closure of part of George St for sewer repairs might be a headache most of the time, but one local group took full advantage on Saturday.
The team behind the Edward Kolety Fishing Classic were set up outside Betta Home Living Superstore to take registrations for this weekend’s event, and to show off the major boat prize provided by Deniliquin Yamaha.
Instead of taking up precious footpath space, they set themselves up on a section of the closed road.
Overwhelming generosity
While still on the Edward Kolety Fishing Classic, organisers say local businesses have exceeded expectations with their support of the event.
Prizes have been donated in such volume, they’re taking up almost a whole room of a committee member’s home.
And that’s only the ones that can be housed inside.
The best thing is, you don’t have to be a registered angler to win some of them.
A raffle will be held at event central at Deniliquin Memorial Park this Friday night, and everyone is invited.
Tickets go on sale from 6pm. You can purchase something from the Rotary Club of Deniliquin barbecue and drinks from the Deniliquin Rovers Football & Netball Club bar.
Raffle tickets are $5 for five numbers. All proceeds go to restocking the river, community projects and partnerships.
Tickets for the major raffle are also still on sale at www.edwardfishingchallenge.com.au, under the ‘enter now’ tab. Registrations are also still open, but hurry because places are limited.
