The Victorian Government has announced a $780 million annual maintenance blitz to rebuild, repair and resurface more than 1500km of roads.
The work will be done over the next eight months, with 1300 individual projects across the Western Hwy, Hume Fwy, Murray Valley Hwy, Hamilton Hwy and South Gippsland Hwy.
Labor candidate for Euroa Angela Tough said the investment would help regional Victorians and major freight lines.
“This is great news for regional Victorians and it will be exciting to see this work completed over the next few years,” she said.
“People in regional communities don’t take transport for granted, it’s how we stay connected.”
The government says the $780 million put towards road maintenance is double the funding from the Liberals and Nationals when they were last in office.
An additional $3.2 million of funding will be invested in regional roadside maintenance through mowing, weed spraying and graffiti removal.
