Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy is asking locals to stay safe on the roads during the festive season.

With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, the regional roads in the Ovens Valley area will see an increase of traffic as people move around to visit loved ones over the festive season.

“This Christmas and New Year period is a great time to catch up with family and friends after a long year. However, it is also a time when more people are using the road and taking long trips away,” Mr McCurdy said.

He urged road users to practise extra vigilance.

“Remember to drive to the conditions of the road, as even a small pothole could cause serious damage to your car and ruin the festive cheer,” Mr McCurdy said.

He also urged those who drink at celebrations and get-togethers to seek alternative forms of transport rather than drive and risk an accident.

“It is the perfect time to travel after the past few years and catch up with friends and family. Just make sure you stay safe and vigilant when on the road,” Mr McCurdy said.

The state of regional roads in Victoria has recently gained extra prominence with recent flooding causing potholes on roads and damaging vehicles.
