The federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government has announced Moira Shire Council will receive $800,000 to go towards the council’s Thompsons Beach and Kennedy Park Precinct Plan.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson drew attention to the importance of the destination to the region.
"Thompsons Beach has gained national recognition in recent years, with Tourism Australia ranking it as the twelfth best beach in their 2022 Best Australian Beach campaign, and TripAdvisor naming it the 'biggest inland beach in Australia'," he said.
"There is a desire to further activate the precinct, positioning it as a central area for community growth and engagement.
“This project has been led in conjunction with other key stakeholders, such as Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism, Regional Development Victoria and the Berrigan Shire Council, who have all been pivotal in securing this funding.
Dr Emonson wished to thank the federal government for its support of the important project.
The funding is part of the federal government’s $400m regional Precincts and Partnerships Program, which is aimed at supporting local jobs, tourism and cultural opportunities in Victoria’s regions.
