On June 23 the Victorian Racing Club announced the health service had been successful in its bid to host a leg of the tour.
Waranga Health is Goulburn Valley Health’s Rushworth campus and provides acute, aged care, primary care and community health services.
Waranga Health hotel services manager Sherie Kealy led the cup tour tender submission.
“I was so happy to learn we had been successful. This will be an exciting event for all involved – particularly our residents,” Ms Kealy said.
The cup tour has been running since 2003, visiting towns across Australia and New Zealand to celebrate the race that stops the nation.
“We are thrilled. The staff and aged care residents are excited to get a chance to touch the actual Lexus Melbourne Cup. We have many events planned, which we’ll share shortly,” Waranga Health manager and director of nursing Dan Olivieri said.
GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp said the announcement was exciting news for Rushworth.
“Smaller health services such as Waranga Health are integral to rural communities in the Goulburn Valley, and to be successful in being selected to host the cup recognises how vital they are,” he said.
More details about the Rushworth Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour events will be released closer to the date.
