State schools to receive boost in maintenance funding

Five government schools across northern Victoria are set to receive a funding boost for essential maintenance projects.

Under the Victorian Government’s Planned Maintenance Program, Wangaratta West Primary School, Cobram Primary School, Cohuna Secondary College and Orrvale Primary School will share up to $20 million in funding with 54 other schools across the state.

Education Minister Ben Carroll said the program was about ensuring every Victorian school remained up to date so that every student could access a high-quality education.

“We are constantly evaluating our schools and making sure every single classroom is safe, engaging and will complement the top-class education we are committed to providing,” Mr Carroll said.

Over the past 10 years, the government has invested $16.9 billion on constructing new schools and upgrading existing facilities.

With the increased funding, the above schools will be able to undertake essential work to replace windows, paint walls, resurface floors and fix roofs.

According to the government’s PMP website, Cobram Primary School will receive $167,325.72 for its maintenance projects.

“I’m delighted to see local schools share in this funding, making sure students have the best facilities to learn in,” state Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
