St Mary’s Primary School in Mooroopna has been ranked second in the north-eastern Victoria region.
According to Catholic Education Sandhurst, this placed St Mary’s as one of Australia’s highest-performing schools by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority.
Principal Anthony Butts said he was “filled with a lot of pride and a lot of joy”.
The ranking is based on NAPLAN results from the past three years.
He said this was even more satisfying, as it was not a one-off achievement.
“Our teachers promote a culture of support that ensures that every child is at their best each day, ready to learn and grow, and this acknowledgement is the product of all the hard work from our teachers, students and families,” he said.
Mr Butts also acknowledged his staff, and said the school had worked hard to develop a process of assessment, teaching and learning that allowed teachers to track students and plan the curriculum at individual levels.
“Underpinning this success is a committed and talented group of teachers and support staff who genuinely care for our students,” he said.
“This is a wonderful achievement for our school, and I am delighted to share this good news with the wider St Mary’s community.”
