As temperatures rise this week, train services, including on the Seymour and Shepparton lines will slow.
V/Line said a full extreme heat timetable would be in place on Thursday, February 16 on the Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Seymour lines and possibly on some train lines on Friday, February 17 also.
Shepparton is forecast to reach 38°C on Thursday and a blistering 40°C on Friday.
V/Line said extreme heat speed restrictions were enforced when temperatures exceeded 36°C to reduce the likelihood of train and track faults, while also keeping passengers safe.
V/Line encourages passengers to allow extra time for their journeys.
“When an extreme heat timetable is in place, journey times may be extended by a few minutes as we reduce the speed of our trains,” a V/Line spokesperson said.
“There will be drinking water on board trains and passengers are also encouraged to travel with bottled water and wear cool clothing.”
A copy of the extreme heat timetable can be downloaded from the V/Line website or passengers can ask for a copy from their nearest staffed station.
