A special vigil was held at the Shepparton cenotaph on Wednesday, April 24.
Cadets from Shepparton’s 38 Army Cadet Unit and 419 Air Force Cadet Squadron held a holding ground ceremony at the cenotaph for three-and-a-half hours on the eve of Anzac Day.
The ceremony saw the cadets take turns to stand guard at the cenotaph in 10-minute stints from 5.30pm until 9pm.
It is the second time the Anzac Youth Vigil has been held in Shepparton.
Vigil organiser, Shepparton police Proactive Policing Unit Leading Senior Constable Leigh Johnson, was pleased with how the event went this year.
He said it was decided to hold the vigil again this year after good feedback from last year’s event.
“There was a great number of cadets who wanted to come back and do it again this year to honour service men and women,” he said.
This year saw almost double the number of Air Force cadets taking part, while there was also a very strong turnout of Army cadets.
