The council said the Shepparton Emergency Relief Centre, which was a refuge for people made homeless in the floods, was closed on November 9, but a mobile community recovery hub was assisting with people’s inquiries, including housing and insurance support.
Residents needing housing support can call the flood recovery hotline to find out what can be accessed and to register for temporary accommodation.
The council said its officers were working with local communities to provide outreach flood recovery information, including assistance with health and wellbeing, food and material relief, insurance, housing and legal matters.
Council director community Louise Mitchell said The Hub was adapting to the recovery needs of the community as the weeks went by.
“The Recovery Hub provided a link for community members to access a wide range of recovery support services,” Ms Mitchell said.
“As we move through the phases of recovery, it is important that we adapt to the needs of local people, so now we are going directly to communities.”
More than $13 million has also been pledged by the Victorian Government to support accommodation needs through the new Shepparton Housing Taskforce.
Council’s website also provides a virtual recovery hub by offering support information here: https://greatershepparton.com.au/community/emergencies/flood/flood-recover
The Flood Recovery Hotline is 1800 560 760. The hotline is providing support with clean-up services, assistance with finding a place to stay, financial support, and mental health and wellbeing support.
