It comes as demand for vaccination has increased significantly, with more people eligible to be vaccinated and the Victorian Government targeting one million COVID-19 vaccinations in five weeks.
People aged 18 to 39 years are now able to get their first AstraZeneca jab at the state-run facility, and people aged 16 years and over with an underlying medical condition are also eligible to be vaccinated.
GV Health COVID-19 vaccination program medical lead Helen Roberts said the additional opening hours would allow for more people to be vaccinated at a time that suits them.
“We are very pleased to see the good community uptake for the COVID-19 vaccination and encourage everyone that is eligible to come forward,” Dr Roberts said.
“Our late opening on Tuesday evenings throughout the past month was very successful and so this is another chance for people to receive their vaccination outside of usual business hours.”
GV Health recently celebrated more than 50,000 COVID-19 vaccinations administered across the Goulburn Valley Local Public Health Unit, which includes vaccination sub hubs at Kyabram, Cobram, Mansfield, Kilmore and Seymour.
Dr Roberts encouraged anyone eligible to be vaccinated to come forward.
“We have not seen any lack of demand to be vaccinated locally with all of our appointments booked every week,” she said.
“We open extra appointments as soon as we get any extra doses and these all get booked too. The cross-section of our community that is coming forward is really great to see.
“The most effective way for eligible people to protect themselves from the risk of COVID-19 is to be vaccinated.
‘‘Both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are very effective at preventing people from severe illness, hospitalisation and death if they catch COVID-19.”
GV Health's Shepparton Vaccination Hub is open until 8 pm every Tuesday and will open from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday, August 21.
The hub is at the McIntosh Centre at Shepparton Showgrounds.
