Kialla-based ceramicist Aleisa Miksad will open Shepparton Art Museum’s Community Gallery exhibition with her show Between Scylla and Charybdis | Amphora on Friday.
Ms Miksad’s ceramics represent classical ceramics and sculptures of the Ancient Greeks and Etruscans.
The pieces resemble ancient vases encrusted in coral or sea anemones.
SAM curator of community Caroline Esbenshade said Ms Miksad had pushed the narrative of what was an ancient sculpture to produce a series of ceramic vases.
“We encourage everyone to come along to the opening on Friday to celebrate the creativity of our community,” Ms Esbenshade said.
SAM spotlight is a dedicated solo exhibition to showcase early-career artists. Successful applicants work with SAM curators to design and present a show of their recent work, which will be on display in the community gallery at SAM for a period of 12 weeks.
“SAM Spotlight is a fantastic opportunity for local artists to expand their practice and exhibit in a major regional art museum,” Ms Esbenshade said.
Ms Miksad’s exhibition Between Scylla and Charybdis | Amphora runs until Sunday, February 12, 2023.
