“The board had undertaken a recruitment process and following interviews determined that Sam was the best applicant for the position,” Ms Brown-Shepherd said.
“Sam has been with the Ethnic Council for a number of years as the regional strategic co-ordinator and has built up a network of people involved in the sector both locally and statewide.
“The recruitment process has been timed to enable an appropriate transition to occur before Chris’s departure.
“The board has confidence that Sam has the skills and relevant experience to guide our staff and service delivery to ensure we are providing the right responses to our community’s needs.”
Mr Atukorala thanked Mr Hazelman for his service.
“I have had the privilege of working for this great organisation under Chris’s exceptional leadership for more than nine and half years,” Mr Atukorala said.
“Chris’s departure will be a significant loss, not only for the Ethnic Council of Shepparton but also for our broader multicultural community.
“We will forever cherish Chris’s contributions and unwavering dedication to our community. His impact has been far-reaching, and his legacy will continue to inspire us.
“As I transition into this new role, I am committed to honouring Chris’s legacy by striving to fill his big shoes and continuing the important work he has initiated for our multicultural communities.
“I am deeply honoured to have been selected for this position and am fully aware of the immense responsibility it carries.
“As the leading multicultural organisation, we have a profound responsibility to advocate for, support and empower our multicultural communities in this region.
“With the support of everyone, I am confident that we can continue to make a positive and lasting impact, fostering inclusivity and celebrating the rich and vibrant diversity within our community.”
