The funds raised locally will remain in the area to support community services and programs.
Shepparton Salvation Army corps officer Major Scott Smallacombe explained that the appeal, which was in its 59th year, was crucial because the Salvos often received grants for specific initiatives.
Unfortunately, these grants can limit the support the Salvos can provide to people whose needs exceed the grant’s conditions.
However, the appeal provides a way to raise funds for these situations that may not always be funded by a grant.
“It (the appeal) raises funds for people whose needs don’t match the specific grant,” Mr Smallacombe said.
Community members can find donation points at various locations, including Aldi and Woolworths in Mooroopna, Aldi in Shepparton, the Marketplace and Bunnings between May 10 and May 20.
Some of these will have card facilities available for those who do not carry cash.
Mr Smallacombe also expressed his gratitude to the many “wonderful” volunteers who had offered to support this initiative.
