Seven-year-old Carly Quinn has promised to make a big chop as she raises money for Shave for a Cure on March 14.
Mum Julia said her daughter had been thinking about giving back for a long time.
“She's been mentioning shaving her head for a little while and once she saw the ads on TV, she came to us and said she could now help someone at the same time,” she said.
“She decided she wanted to shave it all a few days before her eighth birthday and donate the ponytails as well.”
Mrs Quinn said she was proud of her daughter.
“Carly has always been so shy, so for her to be doing something like this is a massive deal and we're very proud,” she said.
The whole community has got around the cause.
“We have had a lot of help from local businesses by letting Carly display her poster in their store windows and our local Kits Kafe displaying our collection jar for customers to donate as well,” Mrs Quinn said.
“The local SportsPower, news agency, discount store and Majors IGA have all been very welcoming and supportive of her efforts.
“Her school, St Joseph's Primary in Rochester, has been with her too and Carly is excited to share her video of the shave at an assembly soon after.”
Carly said she had her heart set on raising a significant amount of money for the cause.
“I really want to raise $1000 and I've already made it to $300,” she said.
“I hope I can do it.”
