About 1.3 km of the Goulburn Valley Hwy at Koonoomoo will be improved and 490 m of the Benalla-Tocumwal Rd, Yarroweyah South, will also be upgraded to provide a smoother and safer journey for road users.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said more than $80 million in road maintenance work would be delivered across the region this season.
“We’re taking action to ensure our community has a smoother, safer and more reliable journey — whether you’re taking the kids to school, visiting the shops or simply travelling from A to B,” he said.
“It’s really important for motorists to remember to drive to the traffic conditions and slow down if they come across crews doing work.”
Some 515 km of road will be worked on, with the upgrades being funded as part of the government’s $653 million investment into road maintenance in the 2019-20 Victorian budget.
The state’s roads will continue to be made stronger, safer and more durable, following an investment of $411 million in new funding in the 2020-21 state budget.
Victorian Roads Minister Ben Carroll said the upgrades were also about supplying jobs to local workers.
“We’re not only delivering smoother and safer roads for regional Victorians — we’re supporting jobs on the ground and businesses throughout the local supply chain,” he said.
Drivers who may come across one of the worksites have been urged to be patient and drive with caution, for their own safety and the safety of workers.
