A series of special sports awards were given out at the school’s presentation evening at the end of term.
Among the recipients to receive multiple awards was Connor ‘CJ’ Wilson, who had a stellar year in athletics.
A pinnacle of the year was achieving a gold medal in the under-16s shot put at the Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide with a 4kg shot put throw of 16.85m.
He also placed first and second in the sport for his age group at the NSW Combined High School’s Championships.
As a result of his combined efforts throughout the year, Connor ended 2024 by being presented with a Riverina Sporting Blue.
Riverina Sporting Blues are to be awarded to those Riverina-based students who have represented the region in their nominated sport, gained selection in a state or national schools team and won an individual event at the NSW CHS or NSW PSSA Championship, or gained a podium finish in an individual event at a national schools event.
Recipients must also demonstrate a suitable standard in ability, commitment, dress, behaviour and attitude, and be considered a suitable role model for other Riverina students.
Multiple other Deni High students were rewarded for participating in regional and state events in their chosen sports.
The only other student recognised for national sporting success was swimmer Luca Caniglia, who was the sole recipient of a Trophy for Australian Representation.
