Council acting chief executive Bryan Sword said the best way to prepare for the changes was by learning how to sort your waste correctly.
“Together, we can make these changes work for the benefit of the entire community. Let’s embrace sustainable waste practices and work towards a more sustainable future for Moira Shire,” Mr Sword said.
“Understanding what goes in each bin will reduce your reliance on your landfill bin, free up space and ensure valuable materials are recycled or composted rather than sent to landfill.”
By effectively using the green-lidded organics, yellow-lidded recycling and purple-lidded glass bins, council can lower the amount of waste sent to landfill while delivering its services more efficiently.
Reducing waste sent to landfill benefits the shire’s natural environment while also reducing costs for ratepayers.
Mr Sword encouraged all residents to download the Moira Waste Info App for bin collection calendars, reminders and the A-Z waste disposal guide.
“You can also visit council’s website for this information and more resources,” Mr Sword said.
“If you need assistance, contact council’s Customer Experience Team. They’re happy to help you navigate the online platforms or provide printed materials if you visit them in person.”
Tips to keep your bins fresh
Double-bag food scraps in council-approved compostable liners or newspaper.
Rinse bins with soapy water after collection.
Store bins in shaded areas to minimise odours.
From next month, red landfill bins will be collected fortnightly, while the green-lidded organics bin will start on weekly collections.
